Posts Tagged ‘egypt role in bible prophecy’

I was excited to read of the future of some cities in Egypt, while doing a daily read in Isaiah today.
Isaiah 19: 18 reads:

On that day five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan (which is HEBREW) and swear loyalty to the LORD of Hosts. One of the cities will be called the City of the Sun. – HCSB(NIV, NLT, ISV AND DRB and others have the translation “The City of the SUN”)

I often google search Biblical names of places to compare the Biblical names with current names, to read the history, and to find the geography of places that I read about in the Bible, and so I was surprised to see that “THE CITY OF THE SUN” is a name still currently used for a City in Egypt.

I found the City written about in EGYPT TODAY in an Article entitled, “A New Dawn for the City of the Sun?” The Article can be read HERE.

I don’t know about you as you read my post today, but this prophecy for Egypt made me very happy.  To hear that Egypt (at least some cities in Egypt?) … who are currently experiencing uprisings, a political meltdown, martyrdomcrucifixions, etc, … has a wonderful future.  A bright future where they will not only honor the Lord God of Hosts and His True Messiah, but they will even be protected by God when trouble comes their way:

Isaiah 19 –

19- On that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the center of the land of Egypt and a pillar to the LORD near her border.20- It will be a sign and witness to the LORD of Hosts in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, He will send them a savior and leader, and he will rescue them.21-   The LORD will make Himself known to Egypt, and Egypt will know the LORD on that day. They will offer sacrifices and offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and fulfill them. 22 – The LORD will strike Egypt, striking and healing. Then they will return to the LORD and He will hear their prayers and heal them.23- On that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. Assyria will go to Egypt, Egypt to Assyria, and Egypt will worship with Assyria.24- On that day Israel will form a triple alliance with Egypt and Assyria–a blessing within the land. 25- The LORD of Hosts will bless them, saying, “Egypt My people, Assyria My handiwork, and Israel My inheritance are blessed.”

Yes, after a time of WRATH for Egypt (see my Article HERE in which I write of the prophecies found in Isaiah and other Bible passages which tell of the Wrath of God that will come to Egypt at the End of the Age before Egypt’s turning to the Lord and the Millennial Reign of the Lord Jesus Christ) repentance, and blessing, and even protection by the Lord Himself will be Egypt’s portion.  And as I stated earlier, this prophecy really made me happy!  For doesn’t this show, once again, the great mercy of the Lord to those who are even currently so against Him.

Remember this character trait of the Lord God Almighty as you pray for your currently lost loved ones. God is rich in mercy and is willing to grant repentance even for the most rebellious of hearts!  Praise God for His rich mercy and grace!

End Notes:
What about other Bible Translations which call this City by another name?
As I went to post the Isaiah 19 Scripture verse for this post, I found that other translations of this verse call this City by another name:

In that day there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the LORD of hosts. One of these will be called the City of Destruction – ESV (NASB, KJV, ASV, YLT and others have the translation “The City of DESTRUCTION”)

Apparently both names for this city,  named HELIOPOLIS, in Egypt have been used.
Wikipedia states:

In the time of the major prophetsIsaiah made a reference to the City of the Sun as one of the five cities of Egypt that would come to speak Hebrew.  However he made a wordplay on “city of the sun” (’ir hašemeš) by writing ’ir haheres which literally means “city of destruction”.[8]These play of words were a prophetic description later reinforced by both Jeremiah and Ezekiel.[9] The Hebrew name, Beth-shemesh, whereBeth means “house” and shemesh means “Sun” was also used to describe Heliopolis by Jeremiah. He prophesied this city’s fate specifically when he declared that the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, would shatter the obelisks of Heliopolis and burn the temple of the sun in fire.[10]Jeremiah’s contemporary Ezekiel, reinforced this message by saying that the “young men of Aven (or Beth-Aven) would fall by the sword”. Like Isaiah, Ezekiel also made a word play on the original Hebrew name of Heliopolis that was used in the time of Joseph, the city of On.

Indeed, Heliopolis was almost entirely destroyed as described in a Tour Egypt Article and elsewhere, which also shows us that God’s Words will always be fulfilled.  All of them.  Shouldn’t you therefore prepare yourself to meet the predicted returning Lord Jesus Christ?

Acts 3 —

18- But what God predicted through the mouth of all the prophets–that His Messiah would suffer–He has fulfilled in this way.

19 – Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

20 – and that He may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah.

21- Heaven must welcome Him until the times of the restoration of all things, which God spoke about by the mouth of His holy prophets from the beginning.

22 – Moses said: The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to Him in everything He will say to you.

23 – And everyone who will not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from the people.
