Archive for the ‘– Charismatic Doctrines: Are They Biblical?’ Category

I see that many are finding my Blog by using the key words “Joseph Prince Rapture”, and so I thought I would google these words myself and give a listen to what Joseph Prince is saying about the Rapture.

I came across a September 2014 teaching on YouTube (posted below) and I would like to discuss a couple of the points that he is teaching.

Joseph Prince stated that he wanted to discuss the “Partial Rapture Theory “. Joseph stated that a Believer who “sometimes stumbles” and who “sometimes sins” looses their hope in the Rapture when taught this theory, because such a person is under condemnation.

Joseph then went on to say in this video, that a partial rapture theory is not biblical and that the ONLY criteria for a Believer to go up in the Rapture is this: that you are a Believer who is alive. And he basis this statement on 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, with his emphasis on verse 15 which reads:

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. – 1 Thessalonians 4:15

Joseph emphasizes that this verse DOES NOT say “we who are faithful” will be caught up with the Lord, and it does not teach “we who are over-comers” will be caught up with the Lord, and then loudly proclaims THE ONLY requirement for the rapture that this verse mentions is “we who are ALIVE and remain”.

Joseph Prince then goes on to state that there are different levels of consecration and/or commitment among Believers, and he asks who gave anyone the right to determine “what level of faithfulness will cause you to be going up” to the Lord, when the Apostle Paul speaking “by the word of the Lord” simply states that it is “we who are alive and remain”.

Now, I ask you honestly, readers … is the whole Truth? And is this sound Bible teaching?

By pulling only one Scripture from the Bible, I could make up any number of teachings and say, “Look! It is truth. The Bible says so!”

So, what does the Bible really teach about the lifestyle of a Believer concerning the Rapture?

Of course the Bible does not teach that one moment you are saved and the next you are not saved when you sin (see 1 John 1:10 to confirm that this is Truth), BUT the True Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ does indeed teach that True Believes will lead godly lives and that those who refuse to do so will miss out on the Rapture. Yes, the Bible actually teaches that there is a PARTIAL RAPTURE for those who are READY, or WISE virgins as seen in this one Passage of Scripture (and yes, there are other Passages which teach this):

1 – “Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 “Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. … 6 “But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.7 “Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8 “The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 “But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. 11 “Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ 12 “But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour. – Matthew 25

Believers are called “virgins” in the Epistle of Paul to the Corinthian church when he writes:

…for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin. – 2 Corinthians 11:2

… and so we see in Matthew 25, that we can be wise virgins who will be allowed to go up in the Rapture and into the presence of our Bridegroom, or we can be foolish virgins who will indeed MISS the Rapture of the Church if we do not keep our ‘lamps lit”.

You see, dear reader, Joseph Prince is WRONG. And I take absolutely no delight in reporting this, since a very, very dear relative of mine chooses to receive spiritual nourishment only through Joseph Prince’s teachings. And this very, very close and dear relative of mine … along with thousands of others … is being lured to sleep, and is being allowed to walk in lukewarmness … and perhaps even in sin … in their Christian walk because of Joseph Prince.

But if the above Bible verse shows that there is indeed a partial rapture for those who are ready, then what are the requirements that the Lord is looking for in His people, in order to be Rapture Ready?

Below are just a few passages of Scripture which show how a wise Believer must walk.
The True Word of God teaches that Believers must learn to over-come the lusts of their flesh:

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. – Romans 8:1, KJV

The True Word of God goes on to warn that:

5 – For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 – For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 – Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 – So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. – Romans 8, KJV

The True Word of God also states this, as written by the very half-brother of Jesus:

You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. – James 4:4

And the True Word of God teaches this:

7 – Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; 8 – the one who practices sin is of the devil – 1 John 3

Please dear readers, do not let any man rob you of your reward which is the Rapture of your body should you be alive when Christ Returns, and please let no man rob you of your reward which is Eternal Life with the Lord Jesus, Who taught us this:

… he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me – Matthew 10:38 (see also Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23, and Luke 14:27)

There are many teachers and preachers today who teach that NO MATTER HOW ONE LIVES, if one simply believes in the Lord Jesus Christ they are eternally saved. However, many, many Scriptures teach differently (some can be found in my Category entitled Holiness: Is It Necessary For Salvation?) and if you are serious about your Eternal Salvation, I would challenge you to search through the Scriptures for the Truth! Please.

Holiness does not mean being perfect every moment, and that the moment you stumble you are doomed to Hell … but holiness does mean a willingness to obey God’s holy requirements and “practice righteousness … even as He is righteous”.

Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous – 1 John 3:7

By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother. – 1 John 3:10

Run after righteousness and holiness, dear reader. Make it your first and foremost goal! By doing such you will have a great reward in this life and in the life to come!

… godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come – 1 Timothy 4:8

3 – If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, 4 – he is conceited and understands nothing; – 1 Timothy 6

Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness – 2 Timothy 2:19

11 – For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 – It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age – Titus 2, NIV

Should Christians go and see it?

Would you mind sitting in a Bible Study that is lead by a New Ager?  If you would not mind that, then go ahead and see the movie, is my thought.  For its writer / producer is New Age.

Roma Downey is the producer of this film and she openly tells in interviews that she is a graduate of “Spiritual Psychology” from  the University of Santa Monica, which specializes in such New Age courses.  (See the schools website HERE)

Roma (as well as the school) also promote the New Age book, “Loyalty to your Soul”.

Roma Downey promotes LOYALTY to your SOUL - screen shot - March 2, 2014

The Jesus of the New Age is spoken of as “love” and as being loving, but of course they do not tell that Jesus’ real reason for dying was to save people from their sins … because of course, they do not believe that people are sinners and in need of being saved from sin.

The road for the One World Religion is being paved, and it seems the Jesus of the new One World Religion will be a loving Jesus who loves everybody, regardless of their beliefs and religion.  And that road is already being paved IN CHURCHES.  I’ve heard it with my own ears.

So please, be on guard when watching movies made about “Jesus” by people who are not even Christians.  Or better yet, why bother giving them your money to begin with?  Why support them financially, and why promote their works to others who may not know the Truth about the REAL Jesus Christ and thus be deceived into thinking that they know Jesus.

1 John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

2 Thessalonians 2:3
3 – Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction …

2 Corinthians 11
13 – For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
14 – No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
15 – Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.

Isaiah 2 hit me square between the eyes today, as I read verse 6, “They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and embrace pagan customs”.   How many times have I read that passage but not been as impacted as I was today, as I daily compare my former Charismatic doctrines against the Word of God.
I have shown in prior blog posts that the Church is indeed full of pagan ideas, pagan philosophies, and occult practices, when I wrote about the “The Jesus of Self-Esteem” which is a pagan philosophy, the current doctrine of “Unity” no matter what which is a New Age doctrine.  I also wrote about “Christians Prophesying At Will” versus the biblical doctrine that men prophesy as the Spirit moves upon them taught in 2 Peter 1:21, and I’ve written about Charismatics vibrating, in “Christians Vibrating“,  which is an occult teaching.
Indeed, Isaiah 2 was a prophetic passage written, not just for the Jews during the time of the prophet Isaiah, but written also for the Church of Today … for sadly, there is “nothing new under the sun“!
And so, today, I simply post the Isaiah 2 Scripture below.  Why not check up on your own beliefs, dear reader?  Why not check your beliefs and your church’s teachings against the Word of God, by which we all will be judged (John 12:48).  You may find that things taught by your Pastors and/or visiting Teachers are no where to be found in Scripture at all.
Grace to you today, to “all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with incorruptible love” (Ephesians 6:24).  Amen.
Isaiah 2

The Day of the Lord

6You, Lord, have abandoned your people,
the descendants of Jacob.
They are full of superstitions from the East;
they practice divination like the Philistines
and embrace pagan customs.
7Their land is full of silver and gold;
there is no end to their treasures.
Their land is full of horses;
there is no end to their chariots.
8Their land is full of idols;
they bow down to the work of their hands,
to what their fingers have made.
9So people will be brought low
and everyone humbled—
do not forgive them.
10Go into the rocks, hide in the ground
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty!
11The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled
and human pride brought low;
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.
12The Lord Almighty has a day in store
for all the proud and lofty,
for all that is exalted
(and they will be humbled),
13for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty,
and all the oaks of Bashan,
14for all the towering mountains
and all the high hills,
15for every lofty tower
and every fortified wall,
16for every trading ship
and every stately vessel.
17The arrogance of man will be brought low
and human pride humbled;
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,
18and the idols will totally disappear.
19People will flee to caves in the rocks
and to holes in the ground
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty,
when he rises to shake the earth.
20In that day people will throw away
to the moles and bats
their idols of silver and idols of gold,
which they made to worship.
21They will flee to caverns in the rocks
and to the overhanging crags
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty,
when he rises to shake the earth.
22 Stop trusting in mere humans,
who have but a breath in their nostrils.
Why hold them in esteem?
John Crowder teaches that Christians can/should levitate.
Do you, or does your church, listen to Crowder’s messages?
Is levitation found anywhere in the Bible? No, it is not.

What is the real purpose of Signs and Wonders?
Is it to convince UNBELIEVERS that God is real and that God loves them?
Consider the below Scriptures from the bible regarding Signs and Wonders:
Luke 4
3 – And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
This one verse seems to show that the devil was egging Jesus on to perform signs and wonders just to prove that He was the Son of God.  And isn’t this the mentality heard among the Signs and Wonders crowds today?   They proclaim, “Since we are God’s children we should be doing even GREATER signs than what Jesus did” (from John 14:12), yet isn’t this the same demonic egging on that Jesus was tempted with, only this time the devil is challenging the Children of God to SHOW OFF with great Signs and Wonders just to PROVE that THEY are Children of God?
Compare the above mindset with the Bible which teaches that we should be focused on walking in the Spirit and bearing fruit to please God (Galatians 5) and compare the above mindset with the Bible which teaches that Signs and Wonders will follow the PREACHING of repentance (Mark 16)?
Romans 12
1 -Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
It is also proclaimed in the Signs and Wonders crowds that “God performs signs and wonders to show people that He is real” or  “to show the people that He loves them“,   but are these statements Biblical Truths?   Again, lets look to Scripture.
IF Jesus came to earth to perform Signs and Wonders to PROVE He was God or to PROVE that God was in love with people so much then why, oh why, did Jesus leave towns and people without performing signs at times?  Why?  Because Jesus said that Signs and Wonders are not sent to save people but that rather REPENTANCE is preached to save people:
Matthew 16
1 – The Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Jesus, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 – But He replied to them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ 3 – “And in the morning, ‘There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?  4 – “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.
Now what exactly is “the sign of Jonah”?  Jonah preached REPENT, WITHOUT signs or wonders,  to the city of Nineveh and the entire city repented by the preaching alone. They simply believed the preaching of the man of God and did not “require” a sign to be convinced.
Jesus gives the same message of repentance to believers and unbelievers still today.  To the church Jesus states over and over in the first chapters of Revelation, “Repent” and we see all the Apostles and John the Baptist preaching “Repent and bring forth deeds worthy of repentance” to the unbelievers of their time:
Acts 26
19 – “So, King Agrippa, I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 – but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance.  (see also Luke 3)
Signs and Wonders were NOT performed to show that God loves anybody or that God is real.  “Repent and turn from your sins” was preached first and signs followed the preaching to confirm that this word “Repent” was from God:
Mark 16
14 – Afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 – And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 – “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
17 –“These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;  18 -they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
19 -So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
20And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.
The Bible really is very clear in detailing how the message “repent” changes peoples lives and converts a sinner, transforming them into a true saint who does not live the sinful life that they used to.
So in conclusion, let us remember the warning from the mouth of Jesus:
Matthew 7
21 – “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.  22 – “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many
miracles?’ 23 – “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
Please be warned and believe the Bible saints:  Signs and Wonders and Healings, in themselves, will NOT  save anybody or reveal to people how much God loves them so that they can be saved!   And Signs and Wonders should not be the focus of  any True Believer to make them feel that they are really God’s Child or to make them feel that they are really spiritual.  Rather, the bible is clear that you will show yourself to truly be God’s Child and God’s love will truly be revealed to you … and anybody who will believe … after you repent from sin!
Acts 3
19 – “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20 – and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you
REPENT first … this is the message that must be preached to the unsaved … THEN the refreshing love and peace of God will come to you from the Lord, and Signs and Wonders may even show up if you will preach this sound Message to the unsaved.   God’s order and God’s reasoning and God’s purpose for Signs and Wonders is clearly shown in the Word, if we all will just care to take some time to read the Word and believe it the way it is written in its context and entirety.

There’s some great news being proclaimed lately.  It is the message that if I will just obey God and if I am “willing to trust Him, (I) will have the best this life has to offer — and more.”  Now isn’t that something to shout about!  (Quote made by Pastor Joel Osteen, as seen on the front page of his  January 2013 website*)

In my last two posts, I wrote about the Jesus of Social Issues and the Jesus of Self Esteem.

In this post I will write about the third Jesus who is preached in many of today’s churches.  He is:  The Jesus Who Will Bless Me, Abundantly and Extravagantly, Above All I Can Ask or Imagine!

Having listened to Word of Faith teaching for many years, I know all the Scriptures which show that God blesses His people, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament.  But I want to ask today’s reader, “Is this the number one reason why Jesus Christ died a horrific and painful death on the cross?  Did He die to make you rich, or to give you a very comfortable, blessed life now?”

Sadly, I have many, many friends who would say, “Yes” to this question.  But dear readers, the answer to this question is actually, “No”,  for the Bible plainly teaches that Jesus Christ died, first and foremost, to pay the punishment due us for our sins:

Isaiah 53 —

5 – But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.   6 – We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

And 1 Corinthians 15 —

3 – For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures

Now some of the older charismatics / christians may give this answer, since churches used to proclaim the Gospel a little more clearly in the old days, but some of the newer christians (especially charismatic christians) may not have a good grasp on this number one truth, even as I have heard with my own ears.

A second point, which can be included in the number one reason regarding why Jesus Christ died, was to rescue us from the punishment that our sins deserved … which is eternal Hell!

John 3 —

18 – Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son

And Mark 16 —

16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (1852),
by British Artist John Martin (1789-1854)

Hell is real, Hell is eternal, and Hell is painful, as mentioned many, many times in Scriptures.  Some Scripture verses may be seen clearly, in my COMMENTS to “the Good Tale” at the end of my article HERE.   I should probably post these Scriptures in an Article of its own, showing that this is yet another Jesus that is being preached in many churches.  It could be titled, The Jesus Who Would Never Send Anyone To Hell.  But I digress…

The second most important reason why Jesus Christ died a painful death on the Cross was so that we would be converted from sinner to saint, and thus freed from the power that sin holds over the sinner.

By accomplishing these wonderful Truths in the life of any person, the newly converted person’s response is usually (and should be) to live a life that shows that God is real by doing “good works” and/or to live a life that shows his/her thankfulness to God for forgiving them, and to live a life that desires to help others hear about this Good News!  Even as the New Testament teaches over and over again:

Titus 2 —

14 – who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
15  – These, then, are the things you should teach.

Or as 1 Peter 2 states —

9 – But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
10 – Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Does this sound like a really dumb and boring way to look at Christianity to you? Is it odd or strange to think that the life of a Christian is to simply “do good deeds”?

Maybe thinking of it this way,  can make it a little easier to understand:  Christ died to save us from the punishment that our sins deserve and rescue us from eternal Hell.  When He did such He turned us into new people who now love to glorify and thank God for doing this;  people who just love to show the rest of the world how kind God is in that He changes people from sinners to saints and saves them from being people who can’t help but sin into people who are freed from the power of sin with all the pain and sorrow that sin brings;  people who are so happy that they have been freed from the punishment of Hell in the next life.

Now many Earthly blessings DO flow out of this new relationship with God:  there is a peace and a joy that can be ours when one is saved and freed from Hell; there can be wonderful physical healings that take place; answered prayers can come from God; and yes, even help with financial needs!  But these blessings flow from a correct relationship with the Biblical Jesus Christ.

So again, it must be stated, that the Bible does not teach anywhere that Jesus Christ died to make us rich or even to supply all of our carnal desires!

Taking the punishment for our sins, so that we could be transformed into the likeness of Christ while we are on Earth, and to enable us to have an inward ability to obey God’s commands are what Jesus Christ died for.

The mindset of the converted Born Again Christian, is to keep ones mind on the things that matter to God most: our maturity and growth as we become more like Jesus Christ and the bringing of others to the knowledge that they too can be saved from Hell:

Romans 8 —

10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

29 – For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
30 – And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

These Romans 8 verses are extremely clear in their showing what God meant for us after He saved us:  we are to grow up to be like Jesus Christ, our example and elder brother, after being justified by and made righteous by Christ’s blood, and so to live for Eternity with God!  Now that TRULY IS something to shout about!

Please meditate on this dear reader, by reading your entire New Testament from start to finish, in order, in context, not jumping from your favorite promise to the next promise, without reading all of the contextual Scriptures surrounding the Promises.  You truly will be amazed at the Jesus Christ of the Bible as you see the real purpose of His life, His death, His burial, and His resurrection.  It was NOT to make us comfortable during this Life.  You are being sold a LIE by current day preachers and teachers.

And if you became “born again” by believing that Jesus died to give you a good life now then I ask a very serious and important question:  Are you truly Born Again?  Can one be truly Born of the Spirit by believing in a Jesus Who is different than the Biblical Jesus.

And thus the reason for these last few posts, for if people are becoming followers of a non-Biblical Jesus, are such people really christians?  Paul stated:

Galatians 1 —

Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 – But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!
9 – As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned

If Paul taught that the teachers of wrong gospels are to be eternally condemned, then what of their followers?  I sadly believe, the followers could also be condemned, for they probably have not had a True Born Again experience, being Born Again into a relationship with the Real Jesus Christ of the Bible.

Don’t let this article make you so mad that you won’t take a moment to think on my questions.  If you are following and obeying the True Jesus Christ of the Bible, then the questioning of your faith will stand up to this test.  But if you find that when you read the New Testament and start to study the Bible so that you can know God and obey Him according to His directives, if you find you have been duped into praising and believing a wrong version of Jesus, or a non-Biblical Jesus, then you should be extremely glad that you’ve found this out now and not at the Judgement Seat of Christ.

2 Corinthians 13 —

5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. (!!)

Lamentations 3 —
40 – Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord
Psalm 139 —
23 – Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns;

24 –  See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way

In my first post of this mini-series, I wrote about the Jesus of Self Esteem.

Today, I thought I’d bring up another Jesus which is being preached in many churches today:   he is the Political Jesus or the Jesus of Social Issues.

Whether it is the Jesus who wants you to demand that politicians change their view and policies regarding Israel, or whether it is the Jesus who wants to change the face of society with free hands-outs for all, or whether it is the Jesus who wants you to rule and reign right now in all areas of government, media, business and education, arts and media, family and religion, all such Jesus’ are political in nature.   But did Jesus Christ DIE in order to set up His Kingdom now, here on Earth, through us His followers?

Many believe the answer to that question is, “Yes”, and Scriptures such as Deuteronomy 11 are often quoted to back up their beliefs:

24 – Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the western sea.25 – No man will be able to stand against you. The Lord your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go.

But is this the over-riding message of the New Testament?  Is this the true reason why Jesus Christ died a horrific and painful death on the cross, to make His followers rulers on earth, right now?

Briefly, the Scriptures below show that the true answer is, “No”, Jesus Christ died to save sinners from their sins first and foremost, freeing people from their sin so they could live in righteousness for God’s glory, and then rule and reign after This Age has been completed.

Revelation 2 —

25 – Only hold on to what you have until I come.

26 – To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations
27 – ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery’

I see this verse as clearly showing Believers that they will indeed rule in the Next Age, but only after serving in the manner in which Christ told us to serve, in this Age:

Mark 10 —

42 – Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
43Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
44 – and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.
45 – For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Even after His resurrection, Jesus told His followers that it is not during This Age that The Lord or His followers will be ruling over Nations, as seen in Acts 1 —

6 – So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

7 – He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Since the Old Testament was written to teach us how to live and how to serve God under this New Covenant, we can learn from the Old Testament that even the men who did rise to power did so ONLY AFTER first showing themselves faithful, humble, and obedient to God and God’s timing!  Think of the hardships Daniel endured before he was given any authority.   Or how about the great Joseph who helped rule Egypt!?  Hands up, if you want to spend years being thrown into Lions Dens or pits or a primitive jails, to prove yourself faithful to God so that you can then be released and rule over a Nation?  Believers who want to rule and reign now often speak of Joseph to me, telling me that “It is God’s will that His people rule and have dominion over Nations so that we can bless the Nations and teach them of God“, but this is absolutely not New Testament theology, as one can see in the very few Scriptures that I have posted above.  Clearly in the few noted Scriptures, it is not yet God’s timing for His people to be ruling or reigning over Nations or to be changing the political atmospheres of Nations.  Our concern is firstly to see that we are converted to be able to enter God’s Kingdom and then secondly to preach to the people of the world that they too may enter God’s Kingdom.

My friends, won’t you please sit with your Bible open, reading your Bible from beginning to end, in order, and without jumping around from your favorite verse to your next favorite verse,  looking to educate yourself on Who the God of the Bible truly is and looking to find Who the Jesus of the Bible truly is.  It really may be a matter of life or death for you.

If you are currently sitting under Charismatic teachings, you really will be surprised at how different the Lord Jesus Christ in the Bible is from the one being preached by most pastors and teachers and even believers.  I have sat in only Charismatic churches since 1985 and know the doctrines first-hand.  I am not a non-Spirit-filled Charismatic basher.  I am simply wanting the current church … all believers in every denomination … to get back to reading their Bibles for themselves to see if what they believe is even written in the Word of God.

God has stated:

5 – “Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
6Do not add to His words, or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar. — Proverbs 30
2 – I will bow down toward Your holy temple and will praise Your name for Your love and Your faithfulness, for You have exalted above all things Your name and Your word. — Psalm 138
Isn’t it time, therefore, that we who call ourselves followers of Christ, also do the same?  Let’s lift God’s Word up above ALL things…even our own pet doctrines!

Has the Jesus of the Bible been replaced in your church with a Jesus that the Bible makes no mention of?

Many new or newer Christians may not even be aware that their church speaks of a Jesus which is different from the Biblical Jesus, and even many old time saints are falling prey as people are more and more turning away from reading the Bible for themselves and relying on simply listening to sermons and preachers or reading books authored by their favorite preachers.

Is this happening in your church?  Is your church preaching a Biblical Jesus or another Jesus?  Can you tell?  Let’s look at one of the more popular Jesus’ that is currently  talked about in churches today.

There is the Jesus of Self Help, Inner Healing, or help with Recovery:  This Jesus will heal all of your inner hurts and past abuses.  Just close your eyes and “see” Jesus there in the middle of your traumatic experience and hear Him love you in the middle of it.  This Jesus  will “walk you through” abuse or will help you in your Recovery from addictions.  But sadly, such teaching is absolutely not mentioned anywhere in the Bible folks.  Why?  Is it because there was no substance abuse in Bible times?  Was there no incest, or family beatings taking place, and so the writers of the Bible were ignorant of such abuses and addictions?  No.  Sin is sin and sin has been around since the very beginning, even before Cain murdered Able.  And in order for any person to find peace, help, and freedom from their inner wounds and/or addictions, they must be able to first call their trouble what the Bible calls it:  SIN. And we must repent of our sin, we must forgive those who sin against us, and we must make the choice to not give in to sin any longer.

Easier said than done, you might moan?  Especially if this writer has never experienced family trauma or addictions to know how hard the struggle can be?  No.  This writer knows all about growing up in a family filled with abuse, of having a father who spent 10 year in prison for armed robbery, and this writer knows the pain and the struggle and the depression that comes from addictions … plural.  But thanks be to God Who set me free when I finally came to the place where I HATED my sin so much that I prayed and pleaded and then fasted and prayed for FREEDOM.  It was only when I picked up the Bible and started reading it for myself … word for word from front to back, even while drinking my daily bottle of booze … that when I came to 1 Corinthians 6:9,10 I realized I was a sinner going to HELL.  And upon repenting I was then very dramatically Born Again and set free from addictions.  And then, when the demons of alcohol came back to me a few years later, tempting me with great temptations to get drunk and live drunk all over again, I went into a very lengthy time of prayer, which consisted of 6 months of focusing on and praying for my freedom.  No Recovery program.  No Inner Healing.  Why?  Because to call myself a victim or victimized, or to say I had “hang ups” or problems and that I just needed a little help, instead of HATING THE SIN that was waging war in my flesh and in my mind, would have kept me a slave to my sins!

God said to the murderer Cain, in Genesis 4 —

sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.

We must learn to MASTER sin and conquer it, in order to be fee and obey the words of God.

Compare this Scripture in Genesis to one false statement currently being promoted:

“People give their lives to sin when they feel rejected and unwanted. But when they know that they are God’s beloved, no temptation can succeed against them.” (p.296) J. Prince Destined To Reign

This teaching is not Biblical, but people are in love with this teacher and his teachings.

The Bible does not say anywhere that when we feel accepted, we will be able to resist temptation.  In fact, the Bible states that in this world the true Christian will actually face persecution and rejection:

Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man – Luke 6:22, NIV

Now, that’s a little tough on the ego, Jesus.  Yet, these are the Words of the real Jesus.   The Biblical Jesus.  Who does love us but Who also gives us the Truth that we must learn to conquer and put away sin.

This may sound extremely harsh and unloving to those who are struggling with any past abuse, rejection, hurt, or current addictions, but people I am telling you the only Truth that will actually SET YOU FREE.

The Bible does not teach us how to develop our self-esteem nor does it teach that God wants to develop our self-esteem!  The Bible also does not treat sin lightly by saying we all just need “help” in our recovery OR that God loves us and accepts just as we are!  Rather the Bible is plain that SIN needs to be resisted and refused, as we can see in Romans 6 other Scriptures:

11 – In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 – Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
13Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.

God sure does love us, so much that even while we are unconverted sinners He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for us and take the punishment of our sins, but He does not want us to continue to live bound in our sins!  He actually demands that all men everywhere repent and turn from sin and be saved.  And if you will take the time to pray … even fast and pray … for your freedom, God will see to it that you WILL be delivered!  But do you hate sin enough to care to be free?  Or do you fear God enough, that you don’t want to disobey His written commands?

Please dear readers, don’t be deceived by the words of current preachers or self-help groups and counselors who won’t call sin sin.  Read the Bible and find out that your trouble IS SIN.  Find out how much God hates sin.  And then please start praying to the real Jesus of the Bible Who can and Who will deliver you from your sin.

1 John 3 —

1 – How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
2 – Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears,we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
3Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
4 – Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
5 – But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.
6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
7 – Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray (Do not be decieved – ESV, NASB, etc).  He who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous.
8 – He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning.

Again, if you are currently struggling with any kind of sin in your life, come to Jesus in determined prayer, for this is why Jesus appeared … to free us from our sin:

1 John 3 —

5 – But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins
8 – The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

Titus 2 —

11 – For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
12 – It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
13 – while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
14 – who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

My next post will show yet another Jesus currently being preached in churches today.  I pray that you will care about your eternal destination enough to be determined to make sure you are actually worshiping and loving the Biblical Jesus … the Jesus Who died to save you and free you from your sins.

2 Corinthians 11 —

3 However, I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by its tricks, so your minds may somehow be lured away from sincere and pure devotion to the Messiah. 4 – For if someone comes along and preaches another Jesus than the one we preached, or should you receive a different spirit from the one you received or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you are all too willing to listen. (ISV)

Galatians 1 —

9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!
